First tastes

I feel as though we haven’t fully started weaning so I haven’t really spoken about this on my blog or on my Instagram page, however on the 7th January Althea had her first ever taste of food, we gave her baby rice with a bit of mummas milk, has anyone ever made the consistency of baby rice perfect first time? Because I defiantly didn’t🤦🏼‍♀️ however it was a hit! She absolutely loved it, we gave her ‘first tastes’ when Althea was just 4 months and 3 weeks old, some people may think this is wrong as the recommended time to start weaning is 6 months! However Althea would cry every time we ate and was just damn right curious. As I said above we haven’t fully started weaning as she only has bits here and there but today I feel ready to start our journey fully! So my question is how did you do it? When did you start the second meal a day? Or did you offer 2/3 meals a day on the first time? I’m not really sure how I should do it, but I’m going to try and do breakfast and dinner to start with as we are usually out at lunch time anyway, but when we get more confident with eating and BLW I will defiantly start offering lunch too.

Ahhh that’s another thing I wanted to talk about, the dreaded baby led weaning, now so many people probably feel the same as me with this one, but what’s best spoon feeding or blw? answer is there is no ‘best’ way every baby is different and the truth is if you choose to spoon feed your baby he/she isn’t going to grow up and always want someone else to feed them, honestly.. have you ever seen a 30 year old demanding to be fed by their mum? I thought not🤣🙈 so do it your way, do it the way you feel most comfortable.

As you can see above we have chosen to spoon feed for now and this is because Althea is only 5months and 2 weeks old and hasn’t got the hang of putting things in her mouth yet ( odd because I see so many baby’s with their hands or toys etc in their mouths at this age ) she prefers to play with her feet or hands 🤣

However we are going to start introducing snack finger food and also some fruit sticks etc so she gets the hang of it and also so I can get some sort of break, ( because let’s me honest, spoon feeding is very boring after a certain amount of time 🤣) so yeah I guess the point is, is that we are going to do a bit of both, I’m nervous but super excited for her to get the hang of it… we haven’t got a high chair yet so another thing I would love to hear from you all regarding what highchairs you recommend?

As you can see in the above photos we are using a mamas and papas sit me up seat, which is great for now but still would love to get a wooden fold away high chair, I would love to hear your recommendations and thank you for reading part of our one of many exciting journeys x

My first birthday outing being a mumma.

So yesterday was my 22nd birthday, James asked me a few weeks ago what I would prefer to do, have a family day out or get a babysitter and go and have some US time! Because it’s my first birthday being a mum I chose to spend time with my little family, James organised a day out in Brighton that was honestly amazing and booked the Aquarium ( anyone with small babies? I really recommend the aquarium) Althea absolutely loved it and it was like a sensory over load for her, myself and James also find the big ocean so interesting so it was a win for everyone🙌🏻

Althea was so good the whole way round and loved watching the fishy’s, she even let us sit down and listen to the talk, about sharks and turtles whilst we watched the sharks and turtles have their dinner. Luckily for us it wasn’t very busy at-all so we were able to push the pram without getting in anyone’s way, but if I was to go again I would bring the carrier and have her front facing as we ended up carrying her round the whole way.

We finished the aquarium and went to Brighton pier and played some arcade games whilst Althea snoozed then headed off to the lanes and did some shopping.

We then grabbed some dinner at this amazing steak house called ‘ Chamuyo’ *really recommend* I would of taken a picture of our dinner but by this point I wished I had got my mum to look after Althea because it wasn’t the relaxing birthday meal I wanted🤦🏼‍♀️but it was delicious! We also skipped dessert as Althea was so overtired nothing was getting her to sleep, however as soon as we got in the car and played Frank Sinatra she was out like a light. Any other babies like Frank Sinatra?🤷🏼‍♀️🤣

Overall, my birthday was a lot different to how I used to spend it. It was a lovely family day out but also stressful with a overtired teething baby. but I wouldn’t change it for the world, I love my little family and I love spending every second with them.

Anyway even if I did want to spend it with just James I wouldn’t be able to leave Althea with anybody else anyway because she is so mummified at the moment, it just wouldn’t of been fair💔 #mumlife🤦🏼‍♀️

So thank you James and Althea for a lovely day, let’s see what being 22 brings me! Maybe a engagement ring? Haha who am I kidding 👀😬 *kidding James *

A tour around Althea’s nursery👶🏼

It’s safe to say I am very happy with the outcome of Althea’s bedroom, myself and James transformed this empty spare room into this gorgeous nursery when I was just 16weeks pregnant, I was determined to have it done before she arrived so I could spend every minute with her, rather than worrying about the nursery being finished.

Although she won’t be sleeping in her room for another 3 months, we still use this room daily for nappy changes, getting ready for the day and winding down for her bedtime routine. For Althea’s bedtime routine we cuddle up on the rocking chair and pick a book from her book shelf and have a good old read, I’m really hoping Althea gets some more books for Christmas as we have defiantly read ‘i love you daddy’ more than 12 times🤦🏼‍♀️

We also struggled putting these cloud shelves up, but we got there in the end and they look amazing! We decided to go for the cloud/hot air balloon look but added animals where necessary to make it more imaginative for Althea as she gets older.

I would also be lying if I said I wasn’t excited when I found a lampshade that matched this gorgeous cloud blind.
